Welcome to Summarie ("we," "our," or "us"). These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our website at https://summarie.co (the "Website") and our Chrome extension (the "Extension"), collectively the "Service".

IMPORTANT: The Service utilises experimental Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and is provided in a BETA stage. This means it is still under development and may contain errors, inaccuracies, or experience interruptions. Use of the Service is subject to the disclaimers and limitations outlined below.

By registering for, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy (which is incorporated herein by reference). If you disagree with any part of these Terms, you must not use the Service.

These Terms apply primarily to users based in the United Kingdom.

2. Definitions

"Service" refers to the Summarie website, Chrome extension, AI summarisation engine, and related functionalities.

"User" means any person or entity using the Service.

"Account" means the account registered by a User to access features of the Service.

"Input Content" means the URLs or text content of third-party documents (like privacy policies, terms of service) that you submit to the Service for summarisation.

"Generated Summary" means the AI-produced summary of the Input Content provided by the Service.

3. Account Registration and Security

To access most features, you must register for an Account, providing accurate information (e.g., name, email).

You are responsible for safeguarding your Account login details and for all activities under your Account. Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an Account and use the Service.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your Account at our discretion, without notice or liability, if we believe you have violated these Terms, or for any other reason deemed necessary to protect the Service or other users.

4. The Service: AI Summaries, Beta Status, and Critical Limitations

AI-Powered Summaries: The Service uses AI to generate summaries of Input Content. This technology is complex and experimental.

Beta Service: You acknowledge the Service is provided "as-is" in a beta stage. It may be unreliable, contain bugs, errors, or inaccuracies, and features may change or be discontinued without notice.

CRITICAL WARNING - ACCURACY DISCLAIMER: While we aim for useful summaries, we make NO GUARANTEE regarding the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or suitability of any Generated Summary. Summaries may contain errors, omit crucial information, or misinterpret nuances of the original Input Content.

NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR READING ORIGINALS: Generated Summaries are provided for informational convenience ONLY. They are NOT legal advice and MUST NOT be used as a substitute for carefully reading and understanding the full original document (the Input Content). You MUST perform your own due diligence.

DO NOT RELY ON SUMMARIES FOR DECISIONS: You agree that you will not rely solely on any Generated Summary when making decisions with legal, financial, or other significant consequences. Your reliance on any information provided by the Service is strictly at your own risk.

Credit System: Use of the Service may be based on credits. Initial free credits may be provided, with options to purchase additional credits as described on the Website.

5. Intellectual Property Rights

Our Service: We own all rights, title, and interest in and to the Service, including the Website, Extension, underlying software, AI models (as developed by us), branding, and the structure and content of the Generated Summaries (excluding the underlying factual information derived from the Input Content). The Service is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws of the United Kingdom and other countries.

Input Content: You acknowledge that the intellectual property rights in the Input Content belong to the respective third-party owners.

License to You: We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service (including viewing Generated Summaries) for your personal, non-commercial use strictly in accordance with these Terms.

Restrictions: You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, reverse engineer, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, nor use our trademarks without prior written consent.

6. Your Responsibilities Regarding Input Content

Rights to Input Content: You represent and warrant that you have the necessary rights or permissions to submit the Input Content to the Service for processing. You agree not to submit any Input Content that infringes upon the copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights of any third party, or that is illegal, defamatory, or harmful.

License to Us: By submitting Input Content, you grant Summarie a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to use, reproduce, process, adapt, and display the Input Content solely for the purpose of operating, providing, and improving the Service (including generating and storing the Generated Summary for your Account).

Responsibility: You are solely responsible for the Input Content you submit and for ensuring it complies with these Terms and applicable laws.

7. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any laws.
  • Submit Input Content you do not have the rights to process.
  • Violate or attempt to violate the security of the Service.
  • Use the Service in any manner that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair it.
  • Scrape, data mine, or systematically extract data from the Service.
  • Use the Generated Summaries for any purpose other than as an informational aid as intended by these Terms.
  • Attempt to mislead others into believing the Generated Summaries are a complete or legally binding representation of the Input Content.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

GIVEN THE EXPERIMENTAL AI NATURE AND BETA STATUS, SUMMARIE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • ANY WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
  • ANY WARRANTY THAT THE SERVICE OR THE GENERATED SUMMARIES WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, RELIABLE, SECURE, ERROR-FREE, OR UNINTERRUPTED.
  • ANY WARRANTY THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED, OR THAT THE SERVICE IS FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE AND ANY RELIANCE UPON GENERATED SUMMARIES IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK.

9. Limitation of Liability

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY – THIS SECTION LIMITS OUR LIABILITY.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW (PARTICULARLY THE CONSUMER RIGHTS ACT 2015 AND OTHER RELEVANT UK LEGISLATION), SUMMARIE, ITS DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, PARTNERS, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES (WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY), LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM:

  • (a) YOUR ACCESS TO, USE OF, OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE THE SERVICE;
  • (b) ANY CONDUCT OR CONTENT OF ANY THIRD PARTY ON THE SERVICE;
  • (c) ANY CONTENT OBTAINED FROM THE SERVICE, INCLUDING ANY GENERATED SUMMARY;
  • (d) SPECIFICALLY, ANY DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR RELIANCE ON A GENERATED SUMMARY AS BEING ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR A SUBSTITUTE FOR READING THE ORIGINAL INPUT CONTENT;
  • (e) UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, USE, OR ALTERATION OF YOUR TRANSMISSIONS OR CONTENT;
  • (f) THE BETA NATURE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING ANY ERRORS, BUGS, OR INTERRUPTIONS.

IN NO EVENT SHALL SUMMARIE'S AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE EXCEED THE GREATER OF (I) ONE HUNDRED POUNDS STERLING (£100) OR (II) THE AMOUNTS PAID BY YOU TO SUMMARIE FOR THE USE OF THE SERVICE IN THE SIX MONTHS PRIOR TO THE CLAIM ARISING.

THIS LIMITATION OF LIABILITY SECTION APPLIES WHETHER THE ALLEGED LIABILITY IS BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY, OR ANY OTHER BASIS, EVEN IF SUMMARIE HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGE. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.

NOTHING IN THESE TERMS SHALL LIMIT OR EXCLUDE OUR LIABILITY FOR: (A) DEATH OR PERSONAL INJURY CAUSED BY OUR NEGLIGENCE; (B) FRAUD OR FRAUDULENT MISREPRESENTATION; OR (C) ANY OTHER LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED BY ENGLISH LAW.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Summarie and its employees, directors, agents, and affiliates from and against any claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs or debt, and expenses (including but not limited to legal fees) arising from: (i) your use of and access to the Service; (ii) your violation of any term of these Terms; (iii) your violation of any third-party right, including without limitation any copyright, property, or privacy right, related to your submission of Input Content or use of Generated Summaries; or (iv) any claim that your actions caused damage to a third party.

11. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales to resolve any dispute arising out of these Terms or the Service.

12. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material (as determined by us), we will provide reasonable notice (e.g., 30 days) prior to the new terms taking effect, such as by posting on the Website or sending an email.

By continuing to access or use our Service after revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised terms. If you do not agree to the new terms, you must stop using the Service.

13. Miscellaneous

Entire Agreement: These Terms (including the Privacy Policy) constitute the entire agreement between you and Summarie regarding the Service.

Severability: If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect.

No Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision will not be considered a waiver of those rights.
